Lutheran Asian Ministries

MISSIONS TO SOUTHEAST ASIA-Lutheran Asian Ministries (LAM) is a missions organization based out of MLC. LAM exists to share the good news of Jesus and the love of God with the people of Southeast Asia and to pursue and establish relationships with their governments and the churches leaders in those countries. LAM works in Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, Myanmar, and Vietnam.

LAM works throughout the Southeast Asian nations to help the poor and improve life. LAM cooperates with the Lao, Vietnam, and Myanmar governments to help in the development of religious, educational, and well/water objectives. LAM accomplishes this by funding and staffing projects in Southeast Asia that partner with others to help people in need.

The people in Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, and Vietnam are among the poorest in Asia. More than 25% survive on less than $2 per day. Although the Church is growing in incredible numbers, less than 1% are Christian.

Lutheran Asian Ministries (LAM) is a Christian Non-profit 501(c)(3) organization based in Iowa (Morningside Lutheran Church in Sioux City, Iowa). We work in Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, Myanmar, and Vietnam with population of about 1.5 million people. LAM exists to share the good news of Jesus and the love of God with the people of Southeast Asian countries, and to pursue and establish relationships with their governments and the church leaders in these countries. We cooperate with the Lao, Vietnam, and Myanmar governments to help in the development of religious, educational, and well/water objectives. We do this by funding and staffing projects in Southeast Asia that partner with others to help people in need. We are based in Siam Reap, Cambodia; Yangon, Myanmar and the capital city, Vientiane, Laos but work throughout the Southeast Asia nations to help the poor and improve life.

Our mission is to serve Khmer, Laotian, Burmese, Thai, and Vietnamese churches by making education and resources available to maximize their effectiveness for God’s service.

Lutheran Asian Ministries started over a decade ago when Rev. Tom Lovan took time off from his church to visit Vietnam, Laos and Thailand. While there he observed such a great need for the gospel for many of the ethnic groups in the region. He was also able to establish and baptize over 300 people in a rural mountain area that has grown to a large congregation and the whole village being Christian.  Now LAM continues to grow, seeking God for a future in Southeast Asia.

As we meet physical and spiritual needs, we strive to demonstrate the love of Jesus Christ with each person we meet. Lutheran Asian Ministries is a growing organization with numerous projects occurring at the same time. We invite you to partner with us in projects which speak to your heart.

Lutheran Asian Ministries is affiliated with Lutheran Congregations in Missions for Christ (LCMC) and holds the same statement of faith as LCMC.
